This play through taught me a valuable lesson; don't horde those skill books, use them, use them as soon as you find them, absolutely zero point in holding onto them, just complicates things.

How is the Animal Friend Perk? After beating the game completely several times, i have yet to use level 2?

Level 1 is the more useful of the two I find, with Level 2 it's not common to have animals nearby to help you in a fight. The animals rarely last long against anything that presents a threat (a Yao Guai will go down in two hits from an Albino Radscorp) but they can prove a useful distraction, and it's funny to watch. Once had a pack of dogs take down an Enclave Officer. If you've already got Level 1 and have all the perks you already want? It's a good 'superfluous' perk to have.
